Dr. Wright's educational philosophy is such that one must do whatever is possible to influence students to learn. It is not only a goal of teaching to accomplish this task but an imperative necessity. All students are able to learn and all stakeholders should be empowered to make this happen. As an educational system and as a country, we must support the kids so that they may reach their potential. Put another way, students must be met where they are and shown a pathway to where they need to be.
A Career and Technical Education (CTE) course of study is one in which a student is taught a skill/career in which they have interest. This education differs from the traditional core model of education in which a student does not have a say in what type of classes they take. This creates the ability for a CTE teacher to spread their love for a profession to the next generation of professionals. It also allows core teachers to teach in a manner that involves the student's chosen CTE pathway to teach the core TEKS as well. This difference in student choice creates an increased chance of success as the student is involved in their future academic success. An educator must develop a relationship with the students in their charge so that they will sense ones caring and willingness to invest oneself in their ensuing success.
In closing, Dr. Wright's sole purpose in education is to give students and educators the tools that give both of them the ability to be successful. This must be accomplished regardless of the barriers to success that either party may face. Failure to do so is a dereliction of duty as a stakeholder in the future of America.
